Kids Come 1st at 2nd
Here at 2nd Presbyterian Church we nurture a safe and fun environment where all kids can discover and experience the vital truths of Jesus.
Our activities focus on loving and worshipping God with heart, mind, soul, and body, and our Christ-centered curriculum for elementary school kids emphasizes three core truths:
· I can trust God no matter what.
· I should make wise choices.
· I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
Designed for Kindergarten through fifth grade, 2nd Street meets on Sunday mornings and involves an interactive, high-energy time of worship, with small group and large group teaching. Each month, we explore a different Biblical virtue. During both Sunday services, we also offer KidzServe children’s worship and, on Wednesday nights, a program of music, fun, and fellowship.
On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, we offer age-specific programs and childcare for our Nursery and Preschool children. We try to teach them the following basic truths through simple lessons and loving care from professional childcare workers and qualified volunteers:
· God made me
· God loves me.
· Jesus wants to be my friend forever.
We want you to be the spiritual leaders in your children's lives, and our Children and Family Ministry exists to support and encourage you in that role. Rearing a child takes a village, so if you have a child with special needs, please don’t hesitate to ask us about personalized attention.

NAMETAGS!
We have new nametags in the children’s area. When you sing in your child, please find their nametag. Younger children also have a parent/guardian tag. Whomever will be picking up your child should return this parent/guardian tag when they come to pick up the child. These items are part of our new check and security measures. We appreciate your feedback on these measures.

Summer comes to 2nd Street this week!
The kids have spoke! You want more classes with kids your own age - you got it! This summer, we'll be having 2 Small Group classes.
Rising 1st and 2nd Grade: Meet in Room 104-105 at 10am. At 10:40 children will go to 2nd Street in the Fellowship Hall. Your family can pick you up in the Fellowship Hall.
Rising 3rd - 5th Grade: Meet in Room 110 at 10am. At 10:40 children will go to 2nd Street in the Fellowship Hall. Rising 3rd-5th graders will be dismissed from the Fellowship Hall.
2ND SERVE
Saturday, August 14th:
8 AM – Noon at WEST VIEW ELEMENTARY
Sign up sheets will be in the Atrium, or you may call Brittany Tuten at 523-2189 to sign up early. Volunteers are needed for everything from gardening to painting to serving refreshments.
We will car pool from the church. There will be child care, children’s service projects, and opportunities for families to serve together.
AT HOME: TALK ABOUT IT
Click on the attachments for great resources to get your family talking. They compliment our Sunday lessons. Elementary Parents can find "Frig Tags" attached for this week and next week. Preschool parents can find "Small Talk" sheets for this month.
KATIE’S SCHEDULE
Katie will be out of the office Thursday, July 8 - Friday, July 17, for her wedding. She will return on Sunday, July 18. If you need anything during this time, please contact the church office at 523-2189.
SUNDAYS & SECURITY
When you arrive on Sunday, please sign your children in at their classroom. At sign in, children and parents will be given a nametag. 3rd-5th grade children may sign in themselves and sign themselves out at the end of 2nd street. All other parents are asked to pick up their children, and return their child's nametag.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to provide a secure environment for your child, the entrance to the children's area will be locked on Sunday mornings, beginning this week. A greeter will be on hand to assist you and welcome guests throughout the morning. Each family will also have a code to enter using the key pad. If you have forgotten your code or do not have one, the greeter can assist you.

VOLUNTEERS
We need volunteers, over the age of 16, to volunteer in the nursery or as a greeter, once every 2 months. Can you help or refer a friend in the congregation?

KidzServe will be back in the fall. We would like to do a version of Children’s Church this summer. To do this, we need volunteers. Please consider this opportunity and help us publicize this need to the congregation.

KIDZ PRAISE @ 2nd
KIDz Praise is a concentrated and eclectic program of creative arts for children (Ages 4,5,6) and Grades 2-5.
As an arm of the Music Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church, KIDz Praise is mainly designed to compliment the new 2nd Street KIDz Serve curriculum, where children will be exposed to a week-to-week rotating menu of music/choir, beginning handchimes/bells, Orff, art, and drama. The goal of this model is to involve and prepare children to be lifelong participants in the music ministry of the church. Provisions will also be made for 6th graders with musical aptitude to be involved where applicable in specific areas.
WHEN: Begins September 16 with the Wednesday Night program @ 6:15 PM - following the supper. Be watching for more details and get your child involved this year!
